The Life of
Andrew B. Crawford, Jr.
On Thursday, November 28, 2002, Andrew B. Crawford, Jr. departed this earthly life. However, a decade later, his spirit still lives on through the Andrew B. Crawford, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund helps young students accomplish their goals and dreams like Andrew.
Andrew was born on February 11, 1978 at Mercer Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey. He attended elementary and middle school at Faith Christian Academy in Hamilton, New Jersey. While there he received numerous academic awards as well as participated and starred in several school productions. Andrew attended one year of junior high at Newtown Friends School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, before entering Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. It was in high school that Andrew began to participate in sports and continued to excel academically.
After graduating high school Andrew attended William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. While in college he studied Communications, he worked as a Resident Assistant, and at the University’s Utilities Department. Andrew was elected to the Board of Trustees for the University. Even in doing all of this, he maintained his academic standing.
After graduation from college, Andrew continued working for the University’s Utilities Department. He also devoted his time to an organization he held near and dear while in college, Brothers For Awareness, in Paterson, New Jersey. This organization promotes the academic growth and educational development of men of color through community service, social events and educational planning. Andrew’s unique voice and service got the attention of former Congressman Donald Payne of Newark, New Jersey, who recognized Andrew’s gifts and chose Andrew to work for him as he represented New Jersey in the House of Representatives in Washington, DC.
Andrew was a hard worker, laboring both night and day, determined to achieve his goals. He was an example for students today. Andrew was loved by all that was touched by his life. The Andrew B. Crawford, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund will allow Andrew’s memory and legacy to live on and to be an example for all young people for many years to come!
